Originally, WPRI’s Matt Touchette writes that “Lucas Oil Stadium told me I had to quote, “go through the body scanners” before entering the stadium for the tour,” he currently claims, “they are in fact metal detectors,” after calling them “full body scanners” in his original post, which has now been changed? [2]  possibly he was mistaken or perhaps repeated something he heard from security staff.

What we know is that:

The 2012 game will be “the most technologically protected Super Bowl,” Frank Straub, Indianapolis’ director of public safety, said that “X-ray machines” would be used throughout the stadium, but didn’t specify whether this referred to devices that scanned bags or people. [4]

1) All delivery vehicles will be x-rayed by powerful machines capable of penetrating 6 inches of steel.  These machines are similar to those used at previous sport venues, borders and are now being deployed around the country at internal VIPER highway check points.[9]  (Image from 2007 Florida super bowl click for larger image) 

2) DHS/TSA has plans, in a 2009 GAO report, to deploy Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) body scanners at sport venues. 

3) Covert microwave-Terahertz cameras have been in use for more than five years, using radiation to strip search you at 10M (30').[5]  Have been publicly used in US public buildings and Canery Warf in UK we can assume have been used covertly much more.

4) Walk through 'Total Recall' x-ray scanners are in use in airports and are serendipitously hidden in government building hallways.[6] 

5) The much loved and trusted TSA/DHS is running security at the super bowl.

6) Face scanners were used at the 2002 supper bowl. [1]  The FBI has plans to have 100 million American faces in a huge internationaly shared database.

7) You and your family WILL be patted down as a pre-requisite to enter the game.  Perhaps be covertly scanned at a distance with powerful microwave or x-ray imaging tools.

8) Your money is being spent so no corners will be cut.

9) No legitimate terrorist threats made against Super Bowl XLVI, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday.[5]

10) X-rays will be used throughout the facility absent a threat?

11) X-rays are a well known cancer causing agent and VERY dangerous to elderly, young children and expecting mothers.

Sporting Venues used as security laboratories.

Sadly, the supper bowl contest has turned into a security laboratory with part of the price of our ticket paying for high tech 'security', Like the airline security fee used to pay for your pat-downs and irradiation.  After ten years of searching millions of travelers and spending $400+ billion, TSA has yet to catch a "terrorist." They have sized countless scissors, tweezers, nail clippers and inconvenienced millions.  While at the same time, putting millions at greater risk of cancer, stripping dignity and destroying the bill of rights. The "security" is mostly about training you to accept being x-rayed, prodded, poked, scanned, photographed, touched, and searched to prepare you and your children for the Brave New 1984 worlds.  Government obsession with security at the expense of privacy and health, has reached fresh levels of madness.  Call it mission creep now that Department of Homeland Security will be running security and testing unknown systems at train stations, shopping malls, public buildings, sport venues, and road side check points.

X-RAY scanning of Delivery Trucks and Vans.

Very powerful mobile x-ray systems made by AS&E and others will be “inspecting” all delivery trucks coming to the 2012 supper bowl.  Depending on where you park or hold your tail gate party you may receive a significant exposure from this dangerous equipment.  (photo complements of us customs)

Similarly, parked Z-backscatter vans may scan your car as you enter the super bowl security perimeter and/or X-ray vans may scan the parking lot during or before the game.  Mobile x-ray vans have been quietly in service all over the US and around the world for years.  This same equipment is currently roving our streets irradiating people without their knowledge, more than 500 systems have been sold.     

Post-arrest pat-down to watch a an American Football game?

Sadly, we are being treated like prisoners and trained to accept being frisked as a condition to watching a game?   The idea of being electronically strip searched and patted down to attend American sporting event is ironic.  Even more ironical that the New York Giants and New England Patriots are playing. Nothing American about being x-rayed, frisked, microwaved, inspected and photographed to attend a private sporting event.
On Thursday, the American Civil Liberties Union condemned the Super Bowl system -- provided free by its manufacturers -- as privacy-invasive: "We do not believe that the public understands or accepts that they will be subjected to a computerized police lineup as a condition of admission."

In addition to numerous instances of the military working hand-in-hand with police around the country — from checkpoints to patrolling public events like the Boston Marathon and the Kentucky Derby — the military has concentrated on training soldiers to take on citizens and gun owners.

Will covert x-ray and microwave imaging systems be used?

TSA will be running security at the ball game, claiming that x-ray scanners will not be used.  This conflicts with  Frank Straub, Indianapolis’ director of public safety, stating x-ray systems will be used throughout the stadium?  As it is easy to hide x-ray systems in walls we can almost assume they may be deployed in portals or walkways.

Clearly using less powerful airport x-ray scanners would be too slow for the thousands expected for the game.  Visible use of such intrusive equipment would cause a public backlash and loss of attendance.    New more powerful x-ray and microwave walk through scanners are currently being used in airports such as Singapore.  It is very likely advanced high power covert x-ray systems will be in use without your knowledge or consent.   Likely hidden in entry portals and hallways maybe used without your knowledge, or portable systems may be used as well.  And or small portable systems may be deployed by unknown "inspectors" scattered around the grounds.

As the weather will be cold more powerful, I would expect x-ray and microwave systems to be used 'peek' under coats and clothing.  Some of the systems will be covert others may be disguised as conventional metal detectors.   The security staff will have worked hard to hide and obscure the imaging equipment to minimize public resistance. 
All the imaging systems have the same 4th amendment search issues like the airport equipment.  All radiation based systems have been varying degrees of health issues associated with their use for both operators and fans.  Operators and fans should consider wearing Dosimeters to monitor exposure from x-rays.     

Covert searches conducted at 2010 supper bowl

For example, x-ray vans were used in the 2010 Miami supper bowl parking lot on empty cars as reported by Propublica.[8] This raises 4th amendment search issues and health concerns for people in the area from scattered x-rays.

Microwave (Terahertz) based cameras using radar may also be used to strip search you at a distance.  For example, such systems are currently in use around the world in such places as Denver Airport (2008), London, Canary wharf and Detroit court house.  As the systems are easily hidden they are likely more widely deployed than we realize.  Publicly we are told the systems are safe and the images are not detailed.

It is well-known for more than 100 years that x-rays cause cancer.   X-rays are a well known cancer-causing agent and VERY dangerous to elderly, young children and expecting mothers.  Similarly, microwave radiation is known to be hazardous to cells.  New T-wave (Terahertz) radiation used in security scanners may resonate with DNA amplifying it’s biological effects.

Roaming undercover agents will be performing various behavioral tests on fans.       

Homeland Security is also developing technology to be used at “security events” which purports to monitor “malintent” on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The promotional video for the program explains how “Future Attribute Screening Technology” (FAST) checkpoints will conduct “physiological” and “behavioral” tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals.

Given that the DHS/TSA has been disingenuous about innumerable different issues, their assurances are hardly reassuring. Super Bowl attendees can, however, be safe in the knowledge that they and their kids and wife will definitely receive a dose of x-rays, pre-arrest pat-down before being allowed to enter the stadium.  Demand clean gloves and NO radiation, enjoy the Game!
