The Transportation Security Agency has spent well over 100 Millions USD for "privacy" software upgrade. Just an expensive paint job on the old scanner they are hopping you will not notice. They are quietly installing 300 more scanners this fall (2011) in eastern airports with 275 more to follow.   Additional systems will be deployed in malls and sporting venues like the supper bowl. [3] Even vehicles entering the supper bowl will be x-ray inspected without peoples knowledge by x-ray vans made by AS&E. [4] [5]

It is of little surprise that then arbitrary powers are given to any person it is only a matter of time before it is abused. TSA has tried is's best to manage it's 64,000+ employees. The stories of abuse, thefts are all too common but not expected. 

False positives with "new" software

After 10-months of test of millimeter-wave body scanners made by L3 Communications German government was not impressed with the 70% false rate. Systems are confused by layered clothing, boots, zippers, pleats, and even incorrect posture. German security experts have just rejected the “privacy” software for lack of accuracy and too many false positives. [1]

Australia recently started a trial, and the second person in at the Sydney airport test set off the alarm repeatedly due to "sweaty armpits." Now who is not sweating, running to catch your flight while dragging a heavy carry on bag to avoid new bag fees? Nervously waiting wondering do I get radiation or dirty gloves?

Good looking people get more likely to be scanned

With powerful imaging equipment in the hands of personnel with limited training we are not surprised the systems will not be abused.   Many stories over the years have surfaced of women with curves getting extra attention and extra scans. [1] 

Your Images Saved?

We are assured the images can't be saved, however approximately 35K images were found the Orlando, Fla. federal courthouse were found? This scanner is of the same microwave type commonly used in airports and public buildings. The proof comes in the form of a letter (PDF), obtained by The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), in which William Bordley, an associate general counsel with the Marshals Service, admits that “approximately 35,314 images…have been stored on the Brijot Gen2 machine” used in the Orlando, Fla. federal courthouse. [2]   As the whole body scanners are also networked we don't know who is looking and where the images are being stored. 

Radiation levels unchanged

The new software does not change radiation levels. The "wave" system is basically a radar system that uses microwaves to "bounce" off the skin. Because your clothing is dry, it is transparent to the radiation passes, giving the system x-ray vision. This is why "sweaty arms" confuse the scanner. In order to "bounce," the radiation must penetrate a short distance into your skin to reflect back. The scanner operates like microwave radar.   It turns or rapidly spins the source rather than a rotating plate this way the radiation is uniformly distributed over your body. As no long-term health study has been done before this was rushed into mass deployment questions still remain.  Some researchers are concerned that the radiation will resonate with DNA multiplying its effects.    Due to the small wave length of the radiation, the images generated are VERY GRAPHIC. X-ray systems with even shorter wave length more detailed images are generated.  X-rats are a well-known carcinogen, with no medical benefit the mass use for ”security" is irresponsible.

Privacy Software is Not Used in the X-ray systems

Both systems generate very detailed images.  People are lead to believe the "privacy" software is being installed in all machines, NOT TRUE.  Only about 1/2 of installed scanners or the microwave systems at this time are evaluating the new software. 

X-ray vision offered as benefit

While we are publicly told the images are fuzzy or stick pictures, at the same time TSA is enticing new employees with the powers of X-ray vision? X-ray vision glasses

Some may remember the toy x-ray vision glasses.  Now this is reality with expensive powerful whole body scanners.  We are told the "new" scanners protect privacy and don't violate the 4th amendment we disagree.  A high-resolution image is generated and is available in memory for remote viewing. Your image is stored on a government computer, searched by government software and remotely viewed by unknown agents.
