On 17 Sept 2012 the EU announced the "banning" of scanners, well sort of... The EU correctly originally put a ban on the x-ray systems for health concerns. Like the US, FDA arms were bent to put the systems into general use. The EU, unlike the US, set a three year limit on this experiment. The time is up, now the EU is simplly replacing x-ray scanners with microwave units. Read more.

In the event you were planning on putting an atomic bomb in your pocket during your next flight you may get caught. Never mind congress has cleared the way for nuclear powered unmanned drones to fly over our heads and look in our windows. Forget that thousands of hand held surface to air missiles some us made are missing from the various wars on terror. And our troops are inhaling depleted uranium (DU) dust.

While TSA is checking your trousers looking for "terrorists" our flight crews often operate with little or broken sleep putting us all at risk. Airline flight crews are Flight Crew stress a greater risk than terrorism.
TSA rather than squeezing your equipment or selecting and irradiating your "cute" wife for "random" AIT inspection could be checking tons of cargo under your feet. Congress asked for this in 2005, we are still waiting... Six tons of unchecked cargo on board are a larger risk than 3 oz of breast milk for some hungry baby. TSA needs to stay on task and do real security work behind the scene or be phased out, let the private airlines handle security.

Governments around the world have had a long history of conducting experiments on soldiers, prisoners and citizens. Germans are known for being fastidious record keepers and, as result, many WW-II records survived for historians and researchers. Sadly, the U.S. government appears to have picked up where the Japanese, Germans and Russians left off. The FDA has opened the door for mass medication and irradiation for non-medical purposes.

Security is not an investment. Investments have returns, security is just a cost, and never returns anything but more cost. The American people and the world have been fooled into giving up liberty for the illusion of safety.

The sun is starting to wake up. Magnetic storms periodically release large emissions of charged particle. It takes a few days for the particles to reach earth and collides with the upper atmosphere. Living at higher latitudes and flying at higher altitudes increases your radiation exposure.

We are told by TSA/DHS the x-ray radiation is not penetrating. If just a few cm or about an inch into the body is not penetrating then this is true. Or the dose is "insignificant", trust us. DHS/TSA are security experts not physicists not surprising the statements are lacking and or misleading.

Due to the rapid growth of a fetus, it is more sensitive to radiation than an adult. In
humans, the major effects on the fetus, from exposure to radiation is miscarriage, birth
defects, mental retardation, poor growth and weight of the fetus, and the possibility of
cancers such as leukemia in childhood. Of course, not all exposures to radiation result in these problems.
